Artistry Boutique is a Canadian online marketplace that connects artists with people who love their work. Artistry Boutique is run by Chewie Media Inc., a company in British Columbia, Canada (“we”, “us”, “our”). We know that buying art and sharing your creative work is personal, so we try to collect only what we need, explain clearly why we need it, and look after it carefully.
This policy explains how we handle personal information under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (BC PIPA). It applies to everyone who visits or uses Artistry Boutique, including artists, buyers, and visitors who are just browsing.

From artists (members): – Your name, email address, password, and account details – Your profile information, such as your display name, bio, artwork images, and descriptions – Your city and province (see “Location information” below) – Your membership details, including your plan, trial dates and billing history. Card details are held by Stripe, not by us (see “Payments” below). – Your payout account status. Your banking and identity-verification details are collected and held by Stripe Connect, not by us. – Whether you choose to label work as Indigenous-made, and any nation, community or affiliation you choose to share for that label – The information needed to sell and ship to buyers, such as order records and payout details
From buyers: – Your name, email address, and account details if you create an account – Billing and shipping addresses – Your order history and the messages you send to artists – Your reviews. Only verified buyers can leave reviews.
From everyone who uses the site: – Messages you send through contact or enquiry forms, including requests to hire an artist for a service – Your preferences, such as your mature-content setting – Basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit, which our servers and service providers collect automatically
We never ask for, or try to detect, your device’s location.
Artists give us a city and province. On public profiles and maps, we only show an artist’s approximate location, rounded to about 2 km, never an exact address.
To place an artist’s city on the map, our server sends the city and province name (not your IP address or any other personal details) to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service.
We use personal information to: – Create and manage artist memberships and buyer accounts – Process orders, memberships, and payments – Let buyers contact artists and hire them for services – Pass order and shipping details to artists so they can ship your purchase directly to you – Display artist profiles, artwork, and approximate locations – Show verified-buyer reviews – Remember your preferences, such as your mature-content setting and the contents of your cart – Send account, trial-reminder, billing, order and service emails (these are transactional and are sent as part of the service) – Send newsletters or promotions only if you’ve opted in. Every marketing email identifies us, gives our mailing address and has a one-click unsubscribe, as required by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We process unsubscribes within 10 business days. – Keep the site secure, prevent fraud, and meet our legal and tax obligations
We only use your information for these purposes, or for other purposes we tell you about and, where required, get your consent for. We don’t sell your personal information.
We share personal information only when we need to:
Some of these providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. When that happens, your information is subject to the laws of that country. We choose providers that protect information to a standard comparable to ours.
We use a small number of cookies: – Cart and session cookies: These keep you signed in and remember what’s in your cart. The site can’t work properly without them. – Mature-content preference cookie: This remembers whether you’ve chosen to see or hide mature artwork.
Stripe and Cloudflare also set security cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the full list. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
Membership and purchase payments are processed securely by Stripe. Stripe may use Link, its saved-payment feature, if you choose it. We receive confirmation of each payment and limited details, such as the amount and the last four digits of the card, but never your full card number.
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above: – Account information: for as long as your account is active, plus 24 months after you close it (so you can restore your page) – Order and payment records: for as long as Canadian tax and accounting laws require, generally six years – Messages and enquiries: for 2 years – Reviews: for as long as the review is published, unless you ask us to remove it
When we no longer need information, we securely delete it or make it anonymous.
We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, restricted access, and trusted service providers. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the appropriate authorities of a serious privacy breach as the law requires.
Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA, you have the right to: – Access the personal information we hold about you – Correct information that’s inaccurate or incomplete – Withdraw your consent to some uses of your information, subject to legal or contractual limits. Withdrawing may mean we can’t provide some services. – Ask questions or make a complaint about how we handle your information
Artists and buyers can update much of their information directly in their account. For anything else, contact us using the details below. We’ll respond within 30 days, as the law requires.
If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Artistry Boutique isn’t intended for children under the age of majority in their province or territory, unless a parent or guardian consents. We don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date, and if the changes are significant, we’ll let members know by email or with a notice on the site.
